Thanks to recent wage legislation by your hero Obama, Chicken of the Sea (which is headquartered in Nancy Pelosi's district..) will soon be eliminating thousands of jobs on the island as they move their processing operations to an automated plant in Georgia.

Before the minimum wage increases, Samoan's were paid $3.25/hour for their work. With the newly legislated increases, the minimum wage now rises to $5.25 hr. That works out to 2,000 jobs eliminated in Samoa, and, 200 jobs increased in Georgia, as well a pretty nice profit for Pelosi and her husband as well!.

StarKist CEO Don Binotto said: "it’s difficult to compete when Samoan workers’ wages are nearly 10 times those of its competitors in Thailand and other countries."

So the question now is: Which is preferable for the Samoan worker — being employed at $3.25 an hour or being unemployed at $5.25?

It's too bad that CII and it's President are busy congratulating themselves with platitudes instead of trying to help these unemployed Samoan people find jobs.

Although I don't think you were taking a shot at all church going managers or employees ( I am one), I agree with just about everything you have said. Frankly, Julian we need more people like you to stand up and say what needs to be said. The problem is, is anyone really listening. As a customer for 20 yrs I appreciate your opinions.

I mean, criticizing conservatives like me and Rush Limbaugh is what I'd usually be expecting from you. But now you're turning the other cheek and going after your fellow lefties in the Sierra Club and the pundits on that last place cable news channel, PSMSNBC? What has gotten into you?

You watch that channel religiously, remember? Isn't that how you swallowed down all of that Obama Kool-Aid, you know, whilst you were watching your love-doll Rachel Maddow vibrating off of the edge of her seat, and Chrissy Matthews was giving you that tingling feeling going all up your leg after the last election? It's a good thing that you write a blog, because watching you do this would not be a very pleasant visual.

On the other hand, who knows? Maybe you're one of those fellas who have a web-cam hooked up to his computer and you like to troll all of the X-rated websites during the day, like those good folks over at the SEC.

Okay, well enough from me. I've got my various businesses to get back to. Readership at the WSJ is up and the ratings on the news channel (I don't want to say the name FOX in front of you..) are through the roof!

I want you to keep writing these hilarious blogs and emitting even more of your greenhouse gases for everyone to enjoy, okay?

I love American Muscle cars have always been the best car ever made just a bit slow on the technological aspect, American cars were good for turns and straight line speed. they continued to build them that way till they fail to meet the demands of going around a corner, till recently with GM's ZR1 and CTS-V two of the best car EVER to roll out of a GM factory!..

God Lord Julian, what has come over you today?

It wasn't that long ago (2008) that you were trumpeting the genius of American ingenuity with your praise of Rick Waggoner and GM. You proudly waived a "patriotic" flag and praised the American ingenuity of this great company. You chided anyone who would dare heap scorn on them: "I want the nonsense of talking down American-made products to stop", is what you wrote in your December 2008 blog.

But now its 2010, Barack Obama is floundering, and you've turned your scorn against another iconic American company, KRAFT Foods.

This is the great American company which invented a pasteurized process for cheese that did not need refrigeration, and who was able to send 6-million pounds of it to American troops who were fighting in World War I. In fact it's the same KRAFT foods company that merged with the Fred Walker Co. of Australia in the 1930's, which is probably why you were eating Vegemite on your toast in the mornings while you were living in New Zealand.

So how does KRAFT'S buyout of Cadbury suddenly become such bad thing? Is it because they will now be able to extend their products availability to developing countries like India, South America and the Middle East?

What's so wrong with the people in those countries being able to enjoy an Oreo cookie, an Oscar Meyer hot dog or a Milka chocolate bar?

How can you wave the American flag for a great American company like GM but not for another like KRAFT foods??

Where is "the spirit of our nation" that you so proudly proclaimed about just a few short years ago?

Newscorp makes a profit. Fox kills MSNBC at every level and category. Murdoch didn't inherit The New York Times. You write poorly and look a lot like Maddow. Obviously, you are the smartest person you know. By the way, Microsoft has some features in Word that can help you with your sentence structure and punctuation. amazing what kind of crap we are getting. Problem of course is greed. I just cannot understand why we as people and Government are letting us bleed to death (eventually).
Example: VW (Volkswagen) decided to build a car plant in China to make the new VW Polo, why so that it can compete against cheap imports like the Hyundai, KIA, etc.
Whilst Germans now can afford to buy a VW Polo, it is just for a short time, VW make profits by produceing in China, but closes down or lays off thausands of car workers in Germany, who on their VW salaries would have been able to buy a VW Polo, but now they are unemployed and no matter how cheap this VW POLO from China is going to be, no one can afford to buy it on a EURO 400.- per MONTH Government handout.

just read the article in the AirCargo News and got into your blogg. Refreshing as always.
My outspokeness did not get me far, as a matter of fact, I got made redundant and now drive Buses in Cairns F.N.Q
I always thought that the "F" in North Queensland meant "FAR", but now after several years of being porkbarrelled up here, I actually think it stands for "Fucking North Queensland". Anyway Julian, it is good to see and hear that you are still there. Drop me a line sometime ok? You remember me it is Roland Ziegler ! Same colourful personality in Freight Forwarding for years, always told people where to stick it.

It's an interesting view, America and China are unfortunately joined at the hip, Niall Ferguson explains this succinctly as a new economic entity he calls Chimerica - http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...... the thing is, for every bit of junk produced, there are equally quality goods being produced also, our TVs, Blueray DVDs, the components for Dell Computers, swiss quality watches, and car parts for GM, Ford, Porsche... accounting for a 3rd of the global GDP and half the global growth of the past few years.

To get out of the current financial mess, Chinese imports to the USA need to increase and get back to where it was before - The Chinese have horded vast reserves of dollars and used this to keep interest rates in the US artificially low, therefore keeping the differential between the renminbi and dollar such that an item can be produced in China for a few cents...

If this stops, the US is in dire trouble financially, interest rates will rocket and the American dollar may no longer stand up as the international reserve currency - Making the impact of the current financial crisis look like a minor dent rather than a disaster, essentially collapsing the US economy rendering the dollar worthless.

This is not the view of chinese commie sympathisers, this is coming from right thinking economists based in the US and should be worrying for us all... "Made in China" may be your best chance of avoiding this catastrophe.
